Before "ROME" hit HBO, "I Claudius" hit PBS and ancient history plotted, poisoned, and bled its way through generations of rulers while treating viewers to things they never learned in Ancient History classes in high school. And it still tells it well. Not as detailed as ROME, nor as long, but it gives a great basic understanding of the power struggle that is the underlying cause of so much of history, and not just ancient. Great entertainment, excellent acting, and a help to those who know that 'those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.'
exactly as advertised, great

It was purchased by my spouse as a birthday gift after a heavy "hint." I had seen parts of the series (I, Claudius) many, many years ago and I was thrilled to be able to finally see and own all of it. I viewed the series one or two episodes per evening on succesive evenings.
Made me buy the book

I have always loved this series. Had it on video, go figure. In fact, this is the fifth set I've aquired - I lend it out and don't get it back. But that's OK - I definitely think it's worth sharing. So it might not be up to modern standards of filming, but it's defintely a great piece.
DREADFUL

Love this program, delighted to see it available here. Disappointed in the sound quality on some of the discs - very mushy at times.

This is a marvelous production. We recorded it on VIDEO TAPE when it first aired. The DVD is much sharper and clearer and takes up less room. It is the best production in our minds that BBC ever did. The actors are perfect for each of their roles. We just can't say enough good things about the production.
Outstanding Series
