Another cheaply made item fron India. The wood is all right but the way the desk is joined together is a sad case of terrible workmanship. I'm surprised the thing survived the trip from India in a container ship. A good choice would be a similar item sold by Authentic Models. It costs a bit more but it's well worth the extra. I bought AM's version and it's beautiful.

First impressions when taking it out of the box was that the wood was so pretty. Then after removing the plastic cover and touching it was another story. You could tell it had not been sanded properly..........rough grain could be felt. In addition, the manufacturer had applied a heavy stain that had not been rubbed off. This has given the desk a sticky, tacky finish. Because I like the size, overall design and the type of wood, I will keep the desk and refinish it properly so the wood's natural beauty will be reflected and worthy of storing my things in it. I have definitely overpaid for this product. At this price, I should not have to do a restoration.

I'm so pleased with this little writing box! Of course, you have to keep in mind that it is not a lap box. It's designed to be used on a table. I don't have a problem with the hinge as the first reviewer mentioned, and I wonder if the hinge on his desk was defective. The position of the drawer is a bit unhandy, but I don't see how the drawer could be located anywhere else and have the box fold up the way it does. At any rate, the place where the drawer is would be wasted without the drawer. The box has a slight odor, but I don't find it unpleasant. Is this the way teakwood smells, or is the smell from a furniture oil that was applied to the box? My only criticism is that the part that is shown standing upright in the picture (holding stationery) will not stand upright on its own. My husband says this can be solved with two tiny eyelet screws and a little bit of chain - positioned where the chain will fall into one of the little compartments when the box is folded up.

Seed the desk top hing? It does not close when you open the desk, it hands down and is in the way. It was not meant to be a stand for the desk and if you used it that way, you would break it. Need better method for writing portion of desk to be layed out to write

if you look at the picture and see the glasses; the drawer opens towards the glasses completely reversed from how it should open. You can't open it unless you turn the thing 180 degrees, and then the writing area is not accessable. Other then that it seems like a nice unit came waxed which I wish if they were going to do that they would have included same so you could maintain with wax versus having to rub it off and use oldenglish like rubbing cover.
