Disc 2

The Cage

Looking into the deaths of several high-ranking Russian defectors, Foyle finds ties to the apparent suicide of an unidentified Russian man and the disappearance of a young woman. His search leads him to a government listening station that may not be what it appears.

We have the complete Foyle's War series. We began watching the series on PBS but started in the middle. So we bought series 1-6 and very much enjoyed knowing the happenings in England during the war. My dad was based in England before the invasion. Series 7 continues after the war with further details of life in England. Well done series.

My wife and I have been long-term fans of Foyle's War on PBS. Unfortunately more recent showings have been set at latenight times not suitable for people who get up in the morning. Foyle's War reson ates with my memories of the World War II era- since I was born in Ireland in 1932 and lived through the austerity times; rationing of food and clothing, limited cooking gas and coal for the fire. It is very nostalgic, and true to my memories. It recals a time that despite all the difficulties and uncertainties was for me a very happy childhood. The tale is so well told that episodes can be watched repeatedly.

I bought Foyle's War Set 7 because I enjoyed the first six sets so thoroughly. The historical accuracy of the evocation of the era I personally lived through was exceptional. Set 7 continues the story into the post war years with the same excellent actors, writing, and direction. However, MI5 shenanagens are far more sinister than those of the war years. Fortunately, the violence and dramatic chases are still minimal. I bought the set to view at my leisure and am satisfied with the purchase. Thanks, Acorn.

I have all of the previous seasons and HAD to have the most recent. It IS different, especially in tone. I'm pleased that the writers and actors have been able to keep up the quality of script, acting and production value. It has interesting story lines and set in an era that is wide open for development. It is the nature of the way Foyle's is shot, but I am sad at the lack of connection with some of the characters from earlier seasons. However, it has the most important character: Foyle himself. And anything more than that might be a spoiler. If you liked the series up to now, you should like this one. It IS different in tone. Much darker and less naive: in music, lighting and theme. However, it is dealing with the cold war, so that is appropriate.

The 3 episodes, with the third being the most compelling, once again are written with exqusite attention to historical details. Foyle's 'wait and see' how things play out as he knows they must remains the genius of his character.

I heard that Acorn paid for production of Set 7 of Foyle. After watching Set 7 on WETA, I bought the disks to reward and encourage Acorn to produce more. Fingers crossed. Haven't watched the disks yet.

I like the fact that they did indeed make another Foyle's War series, and the subsequent follow on is spot on as far as content, but I must admit, the writing is somewhat not as good as the series preceeding this series.... still good, but I thought it might have been a tad better!

Foyle's War is still a fantastic piece of work! This one picks up after the war and tackles the problems of the cold war. Superbly acted and beautifully authentic! Kitchens is at his laconic, ascerbic best.

The complexity of the times makes the story line very plausible and interesting. Also the main character/actor makes the series one of the best in many years.
