The Japanese people have used small chests called tansu since the early 1700s. Portable and practical, they held personal items, papers, tea-ceremony utensils—whatever needed to be neatly stored away. Today you might use them for cards, jewelry, or stationery. Meticulously made by a family of craftsmen, this four-drawer tansu is kiri wood with a warm teak finish, traditional metal fittings, and metal handles. 15"w x 10"h x 8"d.

I bought this to sit on my coffee table and hold all the little things that accumulate in this new electronic age: notebooks with user names and passwords; extra cables; calculator; magnifying glass, etc. Now all the clutter is out of sight. Thanks so much!!

I am very happy with my purchase. I bought it as an accent piece for my livingroom. It looks great! I have absolutely no idea what some of the negative reviews were talking about, I am so glad I didn't let them influence my decision to purchase it.

The tansu is well made and looks great. I was able to put all of my envelopes, passports, stamps, checkbooks and mailing labels inside with no problem. It's a great little desk organizer and I plan on ordering another soon.

The drawers were too shallow to allow me to store items. For the price, I would have expected a hard wood. The drawers were not flush with the front. Cute idea though.

I have not seen the chest/

I bought this as a jewellery case, and was surprised by the lack of quality in the wood itself. It is cheap and flimsy. Not at all worth the $150.

This box is exactly as pictured. I am using it on my bathroom counter top to hold cosmetic items - overflow from my drawers. The only drawback is that the drawers don't slide perfectly.

Bot it as needed a replacement for jewelry and other "things" storage. I like the looks of it, and the size of it. I am disappointed in the quality, such as drawers do not slide smoothly in and out. Drawers are very loose, not a great fit. Color and hardware are good.

I bought the desk as a birthday gift. I expected it to look "more distressed" and not "brand new". The workmanship was "fair". I don't think it was "value for the money spent".

I love this tansu. I received it as a birthday present from my mother and I wouldn't have picked anything else over it even though Acorn has tons of lovely things. My tansu is on my bureau holding my jewelry in it. (I am going to buy drawer inserts but that's only because of what I'm using it for. It isn't a fault with the tansu itself.) I adore that it is made in Japan and has the makers mark on it in kanji. The seams/joints are lovely and the design wonderful. It is simple elegance.
