Disc 1 (Series 1)

Episode 1: The Patience of Maigret

Maigret’s patience is tested when the crime boss he has investigated for years, Manuel Palmari, commits another jewelry heist. But when Palmari himself is murdered, Maigret works with the criminal’s shady mistress, Aline, to find the killer.

Episode 2: Maigret and the Burglar’s Wife

During a routine break-in, a petty thief discovers a woman shot dead in the home. Afraid of being accused of the murder, he goes into hiding and sends his wife to alert Maigret. The detective pays a visit to the home in question, but the owner denies any knowledge of the body.

Episode 3: Maigret Goes to School

A schoolmaster from a small fishing village arrives at Maigret’s office claiming he’s about to be wrongly arrested for murdering the town’s disliked postmistress. Maigret travels to the village and discovers a conspiracy of vast proportions amid surly, distrusting villagers.

Disc 2 (Series 1)

Episode 4: Maigret and the Mad Woman

An elderly woman brings a seemingly ludicrous case to Maigret: she believes that someone is entering her home and moving her belongings around without stealing them. Her concerns are dismissed—until the woman turns up dead and those closest to her become suspects.

Episode 5: Maigret on Home Ground

Maigret receives a mysterious letter announcing a murder on All Saints Day in his hometown. He travels there to attend mass, where a countess suddenly dies, apparently from a heart attack. Investigating further, Maigret uncovers family disputes and financial troubles that make evident the not-so-natural cause of her death.

Episode 6: Maigret Sets a Trap

A series of young women are murdered in Montmartre, driving fear into the hearts of countless Parisian citizens. Desperate to catch the killer, Maigret tells journalists that a suspect has been apprehended and hatches a plan to trap him when he tries to strike next.

Disc 3 (Series 2)

Episode 1: Maigret and the Night Club Dancer

A stripper informs the police that she has overheard a plot to murder a countess. The next day she recants her statement, claiming she was drunk. But soon a series of events transpire that make Maigret take her initial report very seriously.

Episode 2: Maigret and the Hotel Majestic

A woman’s body is found in the basement of the Hotel Majestic, strangled and with a gun in her purse. In order to solve the crime, Maigret must sort through the competing motives and alibis of the hotel staff, a journey that leads him to the seediest corners of Paris.

Episode 3: Maigret on the Defensive

Maigret rushes to help a young woman who calls him in the middle of the night, claiming to have been attacked. He suspects foul play the next morning when the woman, the niece of a prominent politician, levels accusations of inappropriate conduct against him.

Disc 4 (Series 2)

Episode 4: Maigret’s Boyhood Friend

A childhood friend approaches Maigret asking him to investigate the death of his lover, Josee. The only catch? He was one of many men in Josee’s life—and he was hiding in her wardrobe at the time of her death.

Episode 5: Maigret and the Minister

A sanatorium collapses, killing 62 children and inciting public outrage. Later, a government minister asks Maigret to look into the disappearance of an incendiary report that implicated government members in the tragedy.

Episode 6: Maigret and the Maid

In the village of Jeanneville, an elderly man is shot and killed with no clear motive. Maigret’s only potential witness is a recalcitrant 24-year-old woman who lived with the man but denies being his mistress or his maid.

The Maigret videos were excellent - interesting, puzzling and very continental. The character of Maigret was very well done and the plots moved well. Thought the mysteries were interesting with surprise conclusions I was rarely able to predict it was the time and the place atmosphere that I found the most pleasurable when viewing the various episodes.

I am tepid about this. Since I have the whole series of books on Maigret and have seen the series made with Bruno Cremer I find that this collection is not as thorough as the other.

Believable characters, excellent dialogue, great settings and photography. Captures the ambience of mid-20th century Paris/Franc. Only thing I did not kike is that some of the "French" actors have English accents!

What's not to like with the pairing of a great writer and a great actor. Along with The Singing Detective, this is one of my favorite TV series. After I look at it, I will give it to my daughter for her birthday.

I love Paris and since this is set in Paris and does show some actual scenes it is just icing on the cake! I always love a good mystery and the British seem to do the best even when set in Paris!
