"Like an old friend or a fine wine."
Five Stars - Betty from TX

Barnaby and Jones investigate a series of deaths foreshadowed by the appearance of a headless horseman; the demise of a defense attorney whose client has just returned home from prison; and the murder of a journalist with chilling ties to a 1960s horror film.

"TV GOLD" - Entertainment Today

Disc 1

THE DARK RIDER

As two prominent families plan a reenactment of a Civil War battle between their ancestors, the aristocratic DeQuettevilles are haunted by a headless horseman, rumored to foretell the death of those who see him. Barnaby and Jones delve into historical rivalries and family feuds to expose the phantom rider and end the trail of carnage.

Disc 2

MURDER OF INNOCENCE

When convicted murderer Grady Felton returns to Midsomer after his incarceration for killing a young boy—Jones's first murder case—the whole town is set on edge. Felton seems to be out for revenge when his lawyer dies suspiciously, but he has a solid alibi. Then Felton himself is targeted. As the death toll mounts, can Barnaby and Jones discover the truth behind the killings?

Disc 3

DEATH AND THE DIVAS

A journalist writing a book about two sisters—one a Hollywood superstar, the other a failed actress—is murdered while watching a cult horror film starring one of them. As Midsomer Langley's film festival kicks off, more deaths follow, each imitating the sisters' horror films. The detectives dig up family secrets and bitter resentments as they race to prevent the killer's encore.

I was wrong. The writers knew loyal followers would resent anyone brought in to replace Tom; so making him Cousin John Barnaby eases the pain of losing Tom, and introduces us to a warm, charming and intellectual man who not only has a lovely working wife but knows his way around a kitchen and carries on these philosophical and insightful one-sided conversations with his dog-who-thinks-he-is-human. I just bought Set 3 as a Christmas gift for my husband and even though it was not expected to arrive till after the holiday, it arrived just before Christmas. Thank you Acorn for getting it to me early!! The series is intelligent and well acted. We also love other series like Agatha Christie's Poirot, Sherlock Homes (past and present), and we are just getting into Foyle's War.

I bought this because I love Midsomer Murders. This was ruddy awful. Poor Jones--- He did so well with Barnaby and now he comes across as a twit! The story line in the first episode was missing and the character development was nil. I couldn't understand why the characters all hated it each other, but by the end, I hated them all, too! Don't bother buying this. Don't know if I can even watch the other two DVDs.

4 stars for Midsomer set 23 and 1 star for Acorn. While Midsomer is still a good mystery, it lacks the warmth and humor that it had with Tom Barnaby and Joyce. Acorn gets 1 star for showing the movie in stock when I ordered it, and then immediately showing backordered. This isn't the first time this has happened. Also, I ordered from Acorn because I was promised a free dvd. When I got the back order notice, I was told they were out of the dvd, and I wouldn't be getting one. I called about the dvd, but was told there would not be a substitution. In future I will order from Amazon, even if it means that I will have to wait a little longer for the dvd to be available. At least they give you the real date that they will ship it.

Midsome Murders is great.

It was a little hard getting used to Midsomer Murders without Tom Barnaby but if you give it a chance it's really quite good. My one complaint and the reason for only 4 stars is because in #23 is there are only 3 episodes. The stories were quite good and personally I don't agree that they are darker than they used to be. I will hate it when Ben Jones is gone. I really liked Ben but I'm still willing to give it a try.

Sadly, we were quite disappointed with set 23. First, instead of the usual 4 episodes, the set only contained 3 a fact that was not made clear in the offering from Acorn. One wonders if this is the end of the series. Second, with the exception of one of the episodes, they seem to have lost some of the charm and character both in terms of the plot and the actors' interpretation of the main characters. Should another season be made available next year, we will likely not purchase it. It's sad. Thank goodness we still have all of the previous seasons to enjoy from time to time.

Loved this show since Set-1. Have ALL the DVD's. Still, I've always been underwhelmed that each "SET" collection had only 4 episodes ... BUT NOW ... Set 23 contains only 3 episodes, and even more puzzling, the BluRay Set 23 is TWO discs! That's hilarious. I could fit 3 HD episodes on a dinky little thumb drive, yet alone 2 BluRay DVD's! WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!?!? Poor value for the cost of the purchase ... but I'll continue to enjoy the programs ... even the few that are released on each new "Set".

We have viewed two of the three in Midsomer 23 BluRay. Each only has about 8-10 characters, is a very tight mystery without the village life we so enjoyed about the previous ones. I think we will view the next series before buying them. I don't think I would watch these two episodes again. Maybe it is a different direction in which this producer is taking viewers. It is much more like other mysteries and seems to have lost that "time out of time" feeling of the previous series with the deft British humor appearing regularly. It wouldn't matter whether this one was viewed in bluRay or not, for the scenery is not in the forefront as it was previously. We have purchased all the previous series as they came out. BRING back the previous producer!!!
