Usually a series deteriorates over time, especially when the major character is replaced by another. However, in this case the switch works brilliantly -- to my surpise -- and the story lines are some of the best in the series. Major congrats to the director, scriptwriters -- and the stunnenly new acting cast, including the sub-characters and extras.

What a relief. I was afraid the new Barnaby would not fit in, but he did and the Midsomer is going along as great as always. I like the addition of a dog. My one dislike is why did we have to see Ben in the nude in the last story? I marked it off as unnecessary, but something the British seem to spring on you in their mysteries at unexpected moments. That scene could have been cut and no one would have missed it.
Other than that, the new Barnaby, dog, and wife fit in quite nicely.

Excellent transition from Tom Barnaby to John Barnaby as main character with charming introduction and development of John's character. Also continued growth of the Ben Jones character as well. The plots are as intriguing, complex and fun as ever. Highly recommended.

Although we had pre-determined NOT to like the "new" inspector Barnaby, he is actually very good and brings a new dimension to the series.

I have been a fan of MidSomer Murders since they started producing the DVD's. I have enjoyed each and every cast member, and what they brought to the program. I have enjoyed the cast member John Barnaby, and was interested as to how Neil Dudgeon would fit in. I believe he brings a bit of humor to the cast and is a good replacement. I enjoyed the first four DVD's he starred in and look forward to number 22.

I bought this set to see what the new DCI Barnaby was like and I like him every bit as much as the original. He is quite different and Jones is going to find it a struggle to be on the same page but as usual, these stories are very well written and very well acted.

This series continues the Midsomer Murders sequence without skipping a beat in transitioning from Tom Barnaby to John Barnaby. A good series that ranks right up there with several other British mysteries.
Not as good as earlier Midsomers

Probably better than Set 20 -- seemed as if the writers and actors were mailing in their work.
Bought it to see how the series would go ( have set 1 through 21)...not sure if I will buy another.

Fans of Midsomer since the beginning, we weren't sure how we would take to the new Barnaby. Adjustments were slow and real--glad they still had Jones, but were surprised to say good-by to other characters not part of Tom's family--techy-smart Jones flirting police officer and the good doctor. Excellent shows always high class with outstanding performances by all. Thoroughly enjoyed Set 21 almost as much as hated the last Murdoch. Haven't watched a Murdoch since, but look forward to the next Midsomer!

I have always enjoyed the Midsommer Murders series. I have every set! I thought I might not enjoy the new series with John Barnaby as much, but I love him!
I have watched each of my DVD's several times. It's a great past-time on a Sunday afternoon, or any afternoon, really!
