Christie is brilliant because you can put Miss Marple into a movie where she wasn't even a character in the book and it still works beautifully and keeps you guessing or at least intrigued and interested until the end because no matter how many times a Christie classic is redone well it is a wonderful thing! Look at Margaret Rutherford and David Suchet in Hickory Dickory Dock, decades apart as different detectives and each adaptation still perfect! Christie's Pale Horse in the 60's was refreshingly 'modern'. Marple's presence twisted the plot. Redo "Ten Little Indians"!

Geraldine McEwan is the quintessential Miss Marple in that she projects the "essence" of Agatha Christie's character in her books. I've seen 3 actresses play the title character, and of them all, ONLY Geraldine McEwan would I feel confident to approach on a street corner. Which is what most people would feel with the book character. She's friendly, approachable, and nosey - 3 characteristics neither of the other 2 actress' protrayals exhibit. McEwan's "sparkle" in her eye that turns dark when she speaks of the wickedness of murder, while not found (by me, at least) in the books, is perfection for the part. That as much as anything brings substance to her 'little old lady.' Love her, love the DVDs.

A Pocket Full of Rye
Who poisoned wealthy businessman Rex Fortescue? Miss Marple barely has time to ponder this question before her former maid Gladys turns up strangled on the Fortescue estate, a clothes peg stuck on her nose. The murders seem to bear an uncanny resemblance to a child’s nursery rhyme. Miss Marple and Inspector Neele uncover clues from the dead man’s shadowy past that may reveal a method to the madness.

Disc 2
Murder is Easy
Murder is easy, as long as nobody thinks it’s murder. So says elderly Miss Pinkerton to Miss Marple during a chance encounter on a train. When Miss Pinkerton herself dies, Miss Marple believes it was no accident. Her curiosity piqued, she travels to the peaceful village of Wychwood-under-Ashe to investigate. Charming her way into village life, she befriends a former policeman and discovers a secret worth killing for.

Disc 3
They Do It With Mirrors
Miss Marple’s old friend Carrie-Louise has always had a soft heart for charitable causes. This time it’s juvenile criminals, lodged in a reformatory on her estate. But her sister, Ruth van Rydock, is worried about her and asks Miss Marple to pay a visit. With her sharp eyes and unerring sleuthing skills, Miss Marple quickly assesses the situation—but not in time to prevent a murder. Can she save her friend from becoming the next victim?

Disc 4
Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?
A dying man’s last words turn young Bobby Attfield into an amateur detective. With the help of two assistants, beautiful socialite Frankie Derwent and family friend Jane Marple, he sets out to solve the riddle they pose. Love Agatha Christie's Miss Marple stories. My favorite Miss Marple was played by Joan Hickson but the last couple of actresses are very good, too.

Already had this set of Marple so gave this one to my brother as a late Christmas present. I told him if he like to read Martha Grimes, he would like Miss Marple. My favorites are "4:10 to Paddington" and "Murder at the Vicarage". I have several versions of those two and these are two of my favorites.

A friend in Delaware, Aline Berry, introduced me to these captivating mysteries. I don't like bloody shows like NCIS, etc I lived in England in my youth ,but have some difficulties understanding everything.

Aside from the background music still too loud at times, we really enjoyed this series. Would love to see some episodes with the other older British actress who played Miss Marple so well ..

I love Agatha Christie and I do really like Geraldine Mcewan playing Miss Marple; however, I do wish some of the characters had not been combined for the shows; for instance, in "A Murder is Announced" Bunch and Amy Murgatroyd's characters are combined. I did really enjoy the show, but not nearly as much as the book. My children do enjoy the shows as well (11 and 3 years old).

We had always been big fans of David Suchet's Hercule Poirot, but had never seen much of Miss Marple before we watched this version with Geraldine McEwan, and we were very impressed! She makes a wonderful Miss Marple, and the guest stars are impressive, too: the always-funny & entertaining Joanna Lumley (of "Ab Fab" fame, among other things), Simon Callow, David Warner, etc. Beautiful production values, as always-- lovely sets & period costumes! Highly recommended for Agatha Christie fans or just aficionados of period British mysteries in general!
