I bought this because it looked like a good hat for southern California and it was not expensive. I normally where straw hats because they are light and airy (never been fond of hats because they made my head hurt; I was in the Navy). However, I garden and I don't like my head and ears getting burnt. One problem with straw hats is the brim does not block the sun like felt hats. This Soaka Breeze Hat offers both. It is light weight with venting for good air circulation, yet the brim is solid. My last 2 straw hats I bought at a hat store because hats from local hardware/lumber stores did not hold up well and my straw hats cost this much and most of the hats at this hat store were considerably more than the Soaka. It is still winter here so I haven't tried the soaking yet, but I am very pleased with this hat. I highly recommend it.

My husband always complains about his head getting so hot while working in the yard. With this Soaka hat, he can wet it (soak it) and keep his head cool. Also, it has mesh on the sides to help cool it.

Hats off to Soaka Breeze Hat

I purchased this hat after considering other similar hats on the market. It was purchased specifically for a weeklong trip to Voyageur National Park spent mostly on the water. The hat was light weight and cool but equipped with a drawstring for windy days. It crushed for packing and went back into shape with little restyling. It is well constructed and , although I never had to soak it, I'm sure it would pop back into shape and produce cooling results. It is now my go to Summer hat for yard work, hiking and fishing.

I mow several yards in our neighborhood and I sweat profusely. I also recently was told by my dermatologist to start wearing wide-brimmed hats to prevent skin cancer. This one looked like a winner, albeit a tad pricey, but I decided to go for it. The size is perfect (I was worried about that, as one company's "large" is another's "medium") and the construction and materials are first rate. It was also packaged very nicely and carefully. It is a joy to wear this out in the heat. You soak it under the outdoor faucet, flick the excess water off, and plop it on your head. Do prepared to get a little wet with this (but in my case I'm going to be sweaty anyway, so it doesn't matter). The ventilation is very cooling even when the hat is not wet, but once soaked it is like an air conditioner for your head, especially if there is a decent breeze blowing. Excellent chapeau, and I feel a little like Indiana Jones or Dr. Grant in Jurassic Park while wearing it. :)

best of the bunch

I like the way the air flows through the hat. I wore it on a hot day out on a lake. I have fished this lake for 30 plus years and have always worn a straw hat on sunny days. This hat did a great job with air flow and because of the solid brim it gave me better eye protection from the bright sun. The mesh part of the hat is a little wrinkled due to the packaging but I hope in time that will straighten up. I have never had a hat with a "tie on" thong and have not figured out the best way to use this feature yet. I bought the hat primarily for fishing and it certainly works well for that.

I like hats and always liked the "Outback" style but realized, based on my collection of hats and their materials, it would be too warm for most seasons. Wanted one that would 'breathe' and even have a Tilley one with mesh but it too is still too warm most times. The Soaka hat has the perfect type of mesh, the brim conforms to the whatever roll or bend you apply to it, the strap and toggle hold it secure on your head (I have tried it in wind)and it is cool so, when you take it off you do not have a case of flat hair and overly warm "hat head". I forsee this as a hat I will wear daily in all seasons for many years to come.

Overall, I'm satisfied with the purchase. I was surprised by how light the material is, you could actually forget you're wearing it. It remains to be seen if it holds up. Looks good; feels nice; brim molds to desired shape easily and stays in place. I would have liked it better if the brim were maybe a 1/2" broader, but it looks good as is.

Exchanging one of two Soaka Breeze Hats

The two hats I ordered arrived promptly and both recipients were delighted with the product. However, one needed a large rather than an extra large. The instructions for exchange were clear ;however no UPS label was included as suggested it would be. I had to call to have a UPS label emailed to me, and one phone customer service rep said that could take 2-3 days to receive this email. I had to leave town for a week so this birthday exchange was delayed much longer than seems necessary. The shipment box was not particularly large or unusually shaped so I do not know why the UPS label was not included with the product. My son eagerly awaits the arrival of his replacement hat--approximately 3 weeks after his birthday.

I was so excited when my hat came in. I tried it on...it looked great. I looked at the tag and in very prominent letters it says Australia. Then I looked at the small print and much to my horror, it said "Made in China". I think that it is very deceptive of Acorn to specify "Designed in Australia" in the details section and then merely state "imported" without saying where from. The implication is that it is imported from Australia. The next time that I order something from Acorn, I will call and verify country of origin. I am undecided as to whether or not I am going to return it. Acorn, please state clearly in the details, the country of origin for each and every product you sell.
