This is my favorite version. I had the other but gave it away and bought this one. The acting is so much better and I like the actors themselves better.

I had taped this film years ago and watched it many times with pleasure, so I was happy to finally get the DVD. Pure entertainment, but set in the days when terrorism reigned in France and a new world order was foreshadowed. It is not, therefore, just a piece of fluff, but a lesson in human cruelty. Great acting, with Anthony Andrews completely lovable as the Zorro-type hero and Ian McKellen as the neurotic mercenary who can't outsmart his elusive adversary.

I remembered this production fondly, and I still like it, though Jane Seymour's later work has colored my enjoyment of her performance. The production values are pure 80s, but it's still an enjoyable film.

Anthony Andews & Sir Ian McKellan!

Anyone who has seen Anthony Andrews in Brideshead Revisited with Jeremy Irons and loved his Sebastian Flyte will revel in his performance as the saviour of the beleaguered French aristocracy during their revolution! :) Sir Ian is a wonderful villain; their sword fight in the 'last act' is very impressive! Jane Seymour is lovely as the romantic interest, but the men outshine her in this film!

It's a rather obscure title and I didn't expect to find it in DVD form. It's an excellent example of Restoration theatre.

The pairing couldn't have been better cast with Anthony Andrews (Scarlet Pimpernel and Jane Seymour (Marguerite) in their roles. It is a captivating movie I will continue to watch over and over and never tire of.
